Mahavatar Babaji is an immortal Yogi, living in the Himalayas who is said to have an eternal body. His life becomes alive to through a book "Autobiography of a Yogi" written by Paramhansa Yogananda. As per depicted stories in the book, Babaji is a Mahaavatar ( cosmic divine incarnation) who has reanimated the science of KriyaYoga (a highly developed technique of breathing that quantifies spiritual force evolution to attain enlightenment quickly) in this life span. Babaji delivered the first speech on Kriya Yoga’s teachings to Lahiri Mahasaya at Kukuchina, on Dunagiri Mountain in Uttarakhand near Dwarahat, Ranikhet in 1861 as inscribed in the book “Autobiography of a Yogi ”.
It is said that Lahiri Mahasaya was appointed in the Military Engineering Department during the British occupation, in Danapur, West Bengal, in 1861. When he was transferred to Ranikhet by the concern department, is a hill station in the remote Himalaya. While his sojourn in Ranikhet, he was wondering in the Dunagiri Mountains, suddenly he reached that cave. It is said that Babaji transmitted his wish into the mind’ Lahiri Mahasaya to reach the cave. After the reuniting Babaji and Lahiri Mahasaya at the cave, the cave becomes a site for the pilgrimage among Kriya Yogi’s devotee. Now, this cave is famous globally as Babaji Cave.
The uninhabited Mahavatar Babaji has regained his physical body form for centuries, perhaps for millennia…Babaji’s effort on the earth to reestablish the faith in the god through his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya.
